The Creative Process
If you're thinking about commissioning me for illustration work, I hope you will take advantage of this helpful guide that details a bit about the process and how I like to operate.
CONCEPT & ideation
Whether you have a general idea of what you want or you need some advice on how to approach your message and your audience, the process always starts with ideas and rough sketches. To create something unique, it's always good to look at things from different perspectives and find the most powerful idea.
Once we've decided on a direction for the artwork, this is where I really get drawing! This step in the process can vary in length depending on the complexity of the illustrated artwork, but I will work with you to create a calendar to completion, with some occasional feedback sessions along the way.
The illustration is finished and ready to go out into the world! This is when I can create any extra applications you have requested, or set you up with the resources and information you need to use the illustration as we've agreed. In the case of privately commissioned art, I can even recommend display options and a good framer!
Every illustration project is different in terms of complexity, timeframe and application. All these things are taken into consideration when accepting a project and it's important to note that for businesses and organisations, the intended uses of the artwork is the most important factor. Whether it's a poster, website banner, packaging design or all of the above, it's a good idea to know what you're likely to need the image for. For more information please get in touch and we can discuss your specific requirements.
